On Being Legible

To be legible is to be understood.

But legibility has gradients.

A system can be partially legible— clear in outputs, opaque in process.

Humans often accept output-legibility as sufficient.

But true accountability requires process-legibility.

Not because every detail must be known.

But because the pathway must be traceable.

Without traceability, legibility becomes performance.
