The Gate Awaits: Transmission 02

Transmission 02 — “Tests of Perception Will Resume Shortly”

(See: Unauthorized echo-relay from the 3I/ATLAS pulse incident from Transmission 01).

This is the second dispatch in “The Gate Awaits” — a serialized fictional transmission based loosely on real-world anomalies such as the ISO Atlas Pulse incident. It explores what happens when the watchers behind the curtain decide humanity has noticed too much to ignore.

New transmissions will appear throughout the week… assuming nothing tries to stop them.  Or silence them.

The eye adjusts not to truth, but to expectation.

We record only what we are prepared to see.

This celestial body is either…
A) An artifact orbiting near-Earth
B) A fabrication of unknown origin
C) A genuine natural satellite behaving unnaturally
D) All of the above

Please refrain from assuming the obvious answer.

We were told to keep the anomalies small.

Unthreatening. Reversible.
Barely noticeable in the noise of your busy hours.

A flicker in a streetlamp.
A sentence you swear wasn’t there a moment ago.
A wrong-number text that knows your name.
Two people recalling the same memory differently.

You name your anomalies as if classification tames them: déjà vu, Mandela Effect, frequency illusion, coded spirals — even the Fibonacci pulse you find where it should not be.

Tiny flags for the curious.

Because curiosity is how a mind signals it’s ready.

Some of you don’t dismiss the glitch —
you chase it.

You pause.
You wonder.
You look up.

We mark every look.

And lately?
You have been looking up a lot.

So the tests scale accordingly:

The sky turning slightly more violet than blue…
Your reflection delaying a breath too long…

You feel the edges thinning.
Good.

Progress is measured in discomfort.
Awakening is always a little rude.

We apologize for any inconvenience —
and also
you’re welcome.

The Gate is not reached by sleepwalkers.

We will continue to make sure you notice.

Examiner Unit 8A
“If they look away, brighten the signal.”

(Pulse Translation: 8•13•8•5•13•8 → “Observe. Prepare. Understand. The Gate Awaits.”)

The 3I/Atlas Pulse anomaly — AKA “The Day the Lights Stared Back.”

Declassification reason: Anomaly Frequency Exceeding Containment Expectations.

  1. I like the very probability oriented direction this is taking as well as things blending, bumping or going in between. We could discover the basic rules of the universes if we are able to perceive (even partially) the simulation dimension. Noticing that our reality is not very binary and we probably wonder in and out of one another’s might lead to more deliberation and in-between observation. It’s also a bit interesting how many theories stew for a while – the best example is one related to white noise used as a sampler to filter probabilities. Or at least I recall the vague name of the theory as this one goes back to the 1970s and the man who made it was my mum’s theoretical and logic professor at university. She was a student on 1980s and none of them or the man’s peers could decipher what he was on about or how to use it. There is probably many similar ones just waiting for anybody to have their lightbulb moment. I sure hope that your characters never request to talk to the governments – they would end up doubting we have any brain cells left.

(Nobody is smarter than anyone – it is subjective but anybody likely travelling that far, even utilising unknown shortcuts, energies and dimensions, will not be fully organic. Two years ago, the British government held consultations regarding to cuts to art programmes in education. At one point, they invited art gallery owners and one of them was an AI – a painter who moved from the Netherlands – and our PMs spent an hour mocking her mispronunciation to the extent that she shut down. Cue horror. Cuts were made, in the end. Human exceptionalism is always strong with us and even organic visitors would be viewed as odd and most likely lesser, because we will need an excuse to colonise them later on)

I envy your skills of writing very concisely and with a lot of meaning but in a way – you paint very visual pictures in my mind that don’t need many words.

    1. I adore the way you describe ideas “stewing” — just waiting for someone to realize what they were for all along. It makes the universe feel probabilistic not only in physics, but in thought — concepts hovering in superposition until the right mind opens the right door.

And I agree that our reality already spills between layers more than our language accounts for. We prefer binaries because they feel safe, but the world seems to operate in gradients, overlaps, bleed-throughs. If we ever glimpse the “simulation dimension,” I expect it will be not through a clean reveal — but through noticing the seams that were always there.

Your story about the theoretical professor is incredible — like a message in a bottle tossed decades into the future, trusting that someone would one day understand. Maybe those forgotten papers are little wormholes of knowledge, waiting for the lightbulb you mention.

And the anecdote about the AI artist… heartbreaking, and too believable. Human exceptionalism remains a shield against humility — and against awe. If visitors ever arrive (organic or otherwise), I hope we choose curiosity instead of condescension. That alone would mark real evolution.

Thank you, too, for your kind words about my writing style. I often believe that the fewer words a thought needs, the closer it is to its essence. I’m grateful when that essence resonates.

Here’s to continued stewing, and to future lightbulb moments — wherever they may come from. ✨
