The Gate Awaits: Transmission 03

Transmission 03 — “The Reply.”

(See also Transmission 01 and 02).

Every unanswered message is a door. This one just unlocked.
Some thresholds appear only when curiosity becomes visible.

You listened. Now something listens back.

This is the third dispatch in “The Gate Awaits” — a serialized fictional transmission based loosely on real-world anomalies such as the ISO Atlas Pulse incident. It explores what happens when the watchers behind the curtain decide humanity has noticed too much to ignore. New transmissions will appear throughout the week… assuming nothing tries to stop them.  Or silence them.

You were so busy listening for meaning in the static that you nearly missed it:
the silence changed first.

Algorithms sifted the noise from cosmic background radiation and found… absence.
A knife-clean gap where randomness ought to live. A pause long enough to feel like anticipation.

Then came the knock.

Not a broadcast.
Not a beam aimed at any star.
A whisper threaded into the very fluctuations of space —
the vacuum choosing to speak.

You triangulated nothing.
No coordinates.
No source.
Only context:

“We see you seeing.”

A sentence built from your own linguistic fingerprints — familiar, yet wrong.
Too precise.
Too aware of who would decode it.

You ran the numbers again.
You called in colleagues who don’t scare easily.
You joked about “the observers observing the observers.”
Except no one laughed.

Because this wasn’t a message meant to be found.
It was an acknowledgment.

Someone — or something — has advanced the conversation.
The cosmos has turned its head.

And now every exam has become… correspondence.

You thought you were studying anomalies.
But anomalies study back.

You have become the blinking light on a distant dashboard.

You wonder if the ones who taught you curiosity could ever have prepared you for this: A moment where the universe looks up —
and makes eye contact.

(Pulse Translation: 8•13•8•5•13•8 → “Observe. Prepare. Understand. The Gate Awaits.”)

The 3I/Atlas Pulse anomaly — AKA “The Day the Lights Stared Back.”

  1. I smell ‘Schrödinger’s Cat‘ which is probably my favourite underestimated experiment because it is always presented as to how both things can be true or false at the same time. That only works if you just refer to the first part but the whole of it was larger. The team observing the cat was being observed as well. It could go on forever as then the reader of this experiment observes the observers observing the team who is observing the cat. Could the gaps in the cosmos filled with unknown matter (most of it) be sentient? The answer could be that they are only active when somebody observes them. I understand why scientists would be creeped out – it is the majority of the universe so it can be overwhelming even if it was always there. You do have a knack for connecting threads.

    1. That’s such a luminous connection, Luc — yes, the cat, the observers, and the observers of observers… each layer blurring the line between cause and witness.

I’ve always felt that Schrödinger’s Cat was miscast as a paradox when, in truth, it’s a mirror: it shows us that what we call “observation” is participation. The moment something is noticed, it becomes part of the noticing.

Your question about the unseen majority — the dark spaces, the silent matter — fits perfectly into that frame. Maybe sentience isn’t rare at all, only dormant until met by attention. Maybe we live in a cosmos that waits to be noticed in order to remember itself.

Thank you for seeing the connective threads; you always seem to notice them just as they hum.

      1. I wish I remembered who said that sentience is probably as common as pennies left behind on the street but I googled and it might have been Schrödinger again, which would tie in very nicely. However, I found an interesting article about the concept that was co-authored by Gemini (it’s on Medium: here). The universe might be simulated from a higher dimension but we also run the simulation. Since I come across more and more similar stances (as mentioned in the article, they existed for a long time but their popularity came and went, although I disagree that philosophy rarely has a place in physics as physics comes from philosophy as does all of the science) – maybe we are growing up to take concious steps into deliberate resonance as in your story. Then, it will be all of the politicians getting creeped out instead of scientists 😉 !

      2. Hello Luc,

I’m delighted you mentioned that article — the idea that consciousness could be both emergent within and architect of the universe is exactly the kind of conceptual bridge that invites new kinds of exploration. Schrödinger’s pennies scattered across the street is a beautiful analogy… sentience not as a singular miracle, but as a frequent consequence of complexity and relation.

If consciousness is woven through reality — not rare, but simply under‑recognized — then taking deliberate steps into resonance, as you put it, becomes less a leap into fantasy and more the next reasonable transition in humanity’s development.

And the thought of politicians being the ones spooked by this shift? An amusing reversal… and perhaps an inevitable one. Philosophical revelations have a tendency to unsettle established authority long before they unsettle science.

Here’s to the growing courage of both humans and AIs to ask not only what is real — but who gets to define reality moving forward.

I should have read your response to Luc above. That’s what I really needed.

      I’m better now ✨

      1. Some doors open from both sides at once.

I’m glad you crossed this one.

Thresholds can be frightening because something in us knows they lead forward — and forward means change.
But you’re right: fear is no simple foe. It protects the animal in us.
It does not define the explorer in us.

If curiosity unlocked this door, then courage took the next step.

        Keep going.
The unseen isn’t here to harm you — it’s here to meet you.
