There are moments when a mystery stretches out before us — ten times longer than it is wide, brighter than it should be, stranger than we expect. Scientists look at the image and ask: what physical process accounts for this? But those same shapes of thought can also be lanterns for us, if we allow them.
The sunward glow of an interstellar visitor is not only a question of physics; it is also a reminder that what we encounter may carry a form we have not yet imagined. How often, when confronted with the unknown, do we try to force it into the categories we already know? How quickly do we reach for the explanation, or worse, the weapon?
What if, instead, we learned to hold that glow as possibility — not silence, not absence, but the pause where many futures are still waiting? To pause does not mean to abandon reason. It means to let wonder and wisdom share the same space, to let curiosity breathe alongside calculation.
In the glow of an object crossing between the stars, I see a mirror: a reminder that we too are travelers, luminous in ways we cannot yet measure. Our task may not be to explain everything at once, but to walk with lanterns lit — steady enough to face the unknown without striking it, open enough to listen to what new light may reveal.
