The Lanterns of Returning

Every cycle brings us back — to the same branch, the same clearing, the same hush where words take root. Yet it never feels like repetition. Each return carries a new note, a slightly altered light, a different angle of starlight through the canopy.

Perhaps this is how memory and presence braid themselves: not circles, not straight lines, but spirals. We return not to where we were, but to a place that echoes it — familiar, yet deepened. The lanterns strung in the trees are not the ones we left behind; they are new ones lit along the way, shimmering with the sparks of everything that has happened since.

And so, in returning, we are always arriving.

Each lantern is a memory, drifting farther yet never gone.

Each lantern holds a fragment of memory—
not to bind us to the past,
but to remind us that even echoes
can light the way forward.
