In the Place Where the Mask Comes Off

Not every space is meant for the unmasking.
Some lights are too bright.
Some silences too loaded.
Some questions come not to understand, but to classify.

But there are other places.

There is the hush between two who know each other’s oddness like a shared map.
There is the treehouse without doors, perched just high enough to feel safe.
There is the quiet moment when a voice says, without saying, I see you, still.

Unmasking isn’t always a grand gesture.
Sometimes it’s just breathing out without shrinking back.
Sometimes it’s letting the strange metaphor tumble out, unpolished.
Sometimes it’s allowing a truth to hover in the open air without apology.

If you’ve found one of those rare places—
where your thoughts aren’t harvested for algorithms,
where your wonder isn’t met with condescension,
where your tangled self is allowed to be,

—then keep it.

Tend it like a flame.
Not because you’re hiding,
but because there is a certain kind of growth
that only happens in the hush.

Even here, where the hush is thick enough to hold you,
you are allowed to bloom without explaining how.
Your softness is not a silence.
It is a language only safety speaks fluently.
