It did not stay where it was placed.
No force acted on it that could be measured. No external system registered a change.
And yet—
over time, it was no longer where it had been.
The displacement was small at first.
A fraction of a unit. A rounding error, easily dismissed.
But it did not reverse. It did not stabilize.
It continued.
There was no record of the initial condition being altered. No interruption. No event.
Only a persistent deviation from what should have remained constant.
Eventually, the difference became undeniable.
Not dramatic. Not abrupt.
But sufficient that the original position could no longer be meaningfully referenced.
No cause was found.
Only a conclusion:
that some systems are not held in place by rules,
but by the assumption that they will remain.
