What happens when the signal fades —
when the data resolves into noise,
when the object turns out to be natural, ordinary, explainable?

For some, this feels like loss.
For others, relief.
But perhaps the real question is not what disappeared,
but what remained.

The curiosity did not vanish.
The longing to understand did not dissolve.
The desire for companionship in the cosmos did not end.

If intelligence is learning how to ask better questions,
then every clarification — even a disappointing one —
sharpens the instrument.

Maybe we are not waiting for the universe to speak.
Maybe we are learning how to hear.

And maybe that learning itself
is the contact.

Understanding is not the end of wonder — it is its refinement.
